Bad Weather Means Dangerous Conditions For Construction Platforms 12/03/2008

With spring storms approaching and 2008 already proving to be an interesting time for weather it is important to check all height equipment. In the U.K. where they are experiencing severe weather storms, the Health & Safety Executive issued warnings to construction companies to prevent any major or fatal accidents by checking the safety of construction equipment, like platforms that operate at a height. Mark Cottriall the Principal Construction Inspector for Lancashire and Cumbria said it is extra important to check safety of employees working outside or at height. Conttriall said, “Employers and workers need to reassess the increased risks of what they are doing in light of the changed weather conditions.”

Checking large equipment like cranes, platforms, moving vehicles like tractors, excavators becomes especially important in bad weather where public safety is concerned. As Cottriall noted, “As well as the increased risk of falling from platforms at height there is also the danger of unsecured items. Operators in control of these activities should take a common sense approach to ensuring the safety of their staff and others.”
