2007 Big Year For Us Exported Combine Harvesters 26/02/2008

Exports of U.S. farm equipment, such as tractors and combine harvesters saw a 13% increase from the previous year, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). The agricultural machinery industry reported export sales of $8.2 billion in 2007. Combine harvester manufactures such as John Deere, are currently enjoying the high grain prices around the world. AEM Vice President Charlie O’Brien said, “The increase illustrates the positive agricultural environment we are now seeing on a global basis. The need to provide energy and the need to provide adequate food to sustain the world population are key drivers of the positive trends we are seeing in exports of combine harvesters.”

So far the largest increases in exports have been to countries such as South America which increased by 46% in 2007. Farm equipment exports to Africa increased by 28%, and Europe took delivery of 24% more, all of which totaling $3.3 billion dollars. Asia also increased their order by 4% and bought $710 million dollars worth of U.S. agricultural machinery. U.S. exports of combine harvesters to Australia totaled only $510 million an actual 15% decrease in sales for 2007, and Central America stayed the same at $722 million dollars worth of exports.
