The rise in price of grain on the world market has spurred the demand for combine harvesters, manufacturers say. This agricultural upsweep means combines are doing better than ever. The agricultural subsidy policy of the new member states of the European Union grants subsidies to small and medium-sized farms in Eastern Europe. The grant is for the purchase of heavy farm equipment, leading to farms upgrading their equipment at a time of high production.

The rise in the price of gasoline and energy has also affected the rise in combine sales. Corn which is one of the biggest products for bio-fuel is leading the price market in grains, as the need and production of bio-fuel increases across the world.

Finnish combine factory Samp-Rosenlew, is currently suffering a staff shortage as the demand for combines grows. Producing 550 combine harvesters a year, with half sold to Finland and the rest to Eastern Europe and Asia. The company is looking to hire 150 new workers this year.
