The Detroit Diesel DD15 took nearly five years to develop and cost $1.5 billion to do so. The Detroit Diesel engine, was unveiled Oct. 19 2007 at the companys Redford, Michigan plant. The six-cylinder DD15 diesel engine uses 14.8 liters and incorporates the new Amplified Common Rail System (ACRS) and the innovated turbo compounding technology. The engine is actually the first one in a series from Detroit Diesel that will range three categories, 12.8 liters, 14.8 liters and 15.6 liters. The next model will be seen shortly, due to released in the second quarter of 2008, the next Detroit Diesel engine in the new family will be the DD15 Freightliner Cascadia.
