What To Look For When Buying An Excavator 20/11/2008

An excavator is one of the most important components of a construction site and one of the most essential pieces of heavy equipment. Before buying one, sit down with a pen and paper and make a quick list of all your requirements.

What type of equipment do you need?
<
This may sound obvious, but you need to start somewhere. Narrow it down to the jobs you need it to do. Consider if it needs pushing power, will it need to work in tight spaces? Attachments are also important to think about, will you need it to dig a hole as well as pushing loads?

What to look for in a machine?

If it’s a crawler model, you need to look at the condition of the undercarriage. If it’s a wheeled machine you should check the condition of the rubber. For all machines, check the cab condition, hydraulic condition, engine smoke, leaks and blade/bucket condition.
Look for a dealer that offers service and support for the equipment.

When talking to a reputable dealer find out if they have attachments and parts to repair the machine in case something happens. Look for a full service dealer than can save you money in the long run.
